Lavender
Lavender is a versatile herb in the mint family. Its key constituent is volatile oils which is why it is a popular essential oil with many uses. Lavender comes from the word lavare which means to wash. The romans used it to scent baths. It has anti-bacterial and anti-septic properties. It is used to disinfect cuts, wounds and sores. It can soothe bites and burns. It can be used to ward off insects. It is often used for nervous system complains like anxiety, depression, insomnia, and headaches. It eases tension and is used as a mild sedative. It relaxes the digestive system and is relaxing and cooling. You can use the dried flowers to make tea by steeping 1 teaspoon in 8 oz of hot water.
Lavender is a perennial shrub that can grow up to 3 feet tall. It holds whorls of blue/violet small flowers. The leaves are small and diverse. The flowers are easy to harvest and dry and store. Just opening a jar of dried lavender and taking a deep breath sends me into a more relaxed state. I often place a drop or two of lavender essential oil on the top of my head and rub it in to my scalp. I carry a lot of tension on the top of my head and this helps me relax and also stimulate my crown chakra.
Lavender flowers are used in many of my bath soaks including A Bloody Good Soak, Relaxation Bath Soak, Self-Love Bath Soak, Sinus Soother, and Calm & Clarity Bath Soak.
